Four ways in.

Pick the one that fits this month. You can switch, or run two of them at once.

No commitment

Play as a sub, and only as a sub

Tell us which places you would genuinely drive to. When a team there is short, you get the ask. Say yes to the ones that work and ignore the rest — there is no roster to let down.

  • Choose as many facilities as you like
  • Every request shows the date, kickoff, field, and the position they need
  • Nothing else from that facility reaches you
  • Captains who like playing with you put you on their priority list
How subbing works

Looking for a team

Put yourself on the list

Add your position, the nights you are free, and where you play. Captains who are short of players browse that list, so you get invitations instead of cold-texting strangers.

  • Position and availability sit on your profile
  • Captains at your facilities can find you and invite you
  • Take the invite that fits and skip the rest
  • Stay on the list as long as you like
Set it up in the app

Ready to commit

Join a team that is recruiting

Teams at your facility that are short of bodies say so. Read what they are about, ask to join, and one tap puts you in the roster, the schedule, and the team chat.

  • See which teams are actually looking
  • Ask to join without knowing anyone there
  • Land in the fixture list and the chat at the same time
  • Any team dues are laid out before you commit
What players get

Bring your people

Start your own team

Name it, give it a crest and kit colours, and send one link. Everyone who taps it lands in the roster and the chat, already set up.

  • One invite link for the whole squad
  • RSVPs, so you know who is actually coming
  • Season fees tracked without a spreadsheet
  • Sub requests for the weeks you are a body short

How subbing actually works.

1

Pick your places

Choose every facility you would genuinely travel to. That is the whole setup. No team, no league, no season.

2

Get the ask

When a team there is a player short, your phone buzzes with the date, kickoff time, field, and the position. These are real openings near you, not a mailing list.

3

Turn up and play

Say yes and you are on that team sheet — in the schedule, in the game thread, with the field number. After the final whistle you are done. Nothing carries over.

For the weeks life gets in the way.

New in town

Moved for work or school. This is the quickest way into a local circle of players.

Between teams

Old squad folded, season ended. Keep playing while you look for the next one.

Can't commit

Shift work, kids, travel. Take the weeks you can and skip the ones you can't.

One more game

Already on a team and want a second night? Sub somewhere else.

Questions we actually get.

Do I have to be on a team to use this?

No. You can follow a facility's schedules and standings with nobody else involved, and you can sub without ever joining a roster. Chat, RSVPs and payment tracking are the parts that need teammates.

Can I do two of these at once?

Yes. Plenty of people keep a regular team and still take sub games at another facility, and being on the free-agent list works alongside taking sub requests.

How much notice do sub requests give?

It varies. Some captains plan a week out and some are scrambling two hours before kickoff. Every request shows the kickoff time, so the call is yours.

Does subbing cost money?

Some teams ask a sub for a share of the night's field or referee fee and many don't. If there is one, it is on the request before you accept.

What if I'm not very good?

It is rec soccer. Sub requests come from teams that need a body, and most of them care far more that you turn up than how you play.

My facility isn't on Rec Soccer yet.

Then these routes have nothing to point at yet, which is the honest answer. Tell us where you play — which places get asked for most is how we choose where to launch next.

Pick a route and get on the pitch.

Rec Soccer is free on Android and on the web. The iPhone app is on its way to the App Store.
